Caravan into the Sunlight Basin area northwest of Cody to learn about the ecological and economic benefits of wolves\, and participate in a discussion on the area’s elk herds. Learn about research occurring in the area to identify population shifts in the areas elk herds as well as objective perspectives from the Wyoming Game &\; Fish Department\, researchers and other stakeholders on these issues. The trail offers moderate hiking through forested areas for the first half\, then up through open meadows and steeper terrain to the top of Cinnamon Mountain. The summit provides the chance to check out an old Forest Service lookout tower and take in excellent views of the Taylor-Hilgard Peaks. Round-trip distance will be about eight miles and will include a strenuous section of trail to the summit. Bring a day pack with water\, lunch\, sunscreen and any other hiking gear you might need. Come join us for our annual GYC summer hike! When the temperature climbs in Cody there is no better escape than the high lakes of the Beartooth Plateau. Don’t forget to pack weather-appropriate clothing\, sturdy hiking shoes\, water\, and a lunch. If you’re into fishing bring your pole because chances are good the fish will be biting.
